Term Project

Proposal:
Illustrate crystals in the style of a field guide.
They either will stand alone in the project as just crystal studies or I'll assign each crystal I illustrate to someone in my life who relates to the properties of that crystal.

What got you into art?
"In preschool we did a bunch of art and my mom kept everything and it just became something I was interested in. Two of my friends also had moms that were artists and I remember wanting to hang out with my friends only because their moms were artists."

How long did it take you to find your style or preferred art medium?
"My preferred art medium is oil pastels and it took until I was 19 to discover that I liked using them. It was after I watched a tour of Isabella Cotier's studio that I realized they were slaying"

Who, if any, are artists that you're inspired by?
"Matisse and Isabella Cotier because the colours they use are CRAZY."

What are your biggest obstacles with your practice?
"I find it hard to overcome perfectionism and tend to stop for long periods of time when I don't feel good about what I'm making."

What are some of the ways you work past these obstacles, if you have ways?
"Meeting up with friends to make art for fun- I feel held accountable by them and they always make it an easy fun time."
